After becoming a Chartered Accountant, you can either start your own practice or move into the service.

You can start the Chartered Accountancy in India by clearing the CA Foundation. but if you are already a graduate/post graduate from the commerce and secured either 55% or more or other graduate/ postgraduate and secured 60% or more or passed the Intermediate level of either ICSI (Institute of Company Secretary of India) or Cost Accountants of India , then you can directly register for the Intermediate level. You will not have to clear the CA Foundation exam.

This is a DIRECT ENTRY ROUTE facility provided by the ICAI.

ICAI Direct Entry Scheme

Register with the ICAI for the Intermediate course. Now you have to go through eight months of study period after registration to appear in the Intermediate exams. (Provisional registration is allowed to the students who are in the final year of Graduation).

This consists of Eight subjects divided into two groups.
Now, you will have to complete 4 weeks of ICITSS to register for practical training. Once you have completed ICITSS then you can register for 3 years of practical training. ICITSS consists of Information Technology (IT) and Orientation Program each for the 15 days.

After completing 9 months of practical training, you can appear in CA Intermediate examinations. The students who are appearing through the Direct Entry Route have to complete first the nine months training period of their articleship to appear in the CA INTERMEDIATE.

Once you cleared both the groups of Intermediate course, you will become eligible for registration in Final.
Now, you will have to complete AICITSS during the last two years of practical training before appearing in the Final Examinations.

AICITSS consists of 4 weeks training period. After completing AICITSS, you can appear in the CA Final while serving the last 6 months of articleship training.

CA Final is also having 8 subjects divided into two groups. One out of the 8 subject is elective. You have to opt that paper while filing the registration form.

Now, the last step is to become a member with ICAI. Clear both the groups of Final and also complete the articleship training.

Once you completed your training and also cleared both the groups of Final, you will be a member of ICAI.
Take your membership number from ICAI.

Students who have passed the Intermediate level of ICSI or ICMA have to follow these steps:-

First, you register with the ICAI for the Intermediate course. It Consists of 8 subjects divided into 2 groups.

Then, you have to go through 8 months of study period after registration to appear in the examination.

Now, clear either one or both the groups of the Intermediate to get register for the 3 years practical training.

But before the commencement of the practical training, you have to complete ICITSS. It consists of IT (Information Technology) and Orientation Program each for 15 days. That means, to get register in practical Training, you have to complete first 4 weeks of ICITSS.

After clearing either one or both the groups of the Intermediate and completing ICITSS you can commence your practical training under a practising Chartered Accountants.

Register for the Final course once you cleared both the groups of Intermediate. That means if any candidate has cleared only one group before the commencement of practical training, he/she has to clear it before registering for Final.

While serving the last two years of Practical training and before appearing for the Final Examination, you have to complete 4 weeks of Advance ICITSS. It consists of Advance IT( Information Technology) and MCS (Management and Communication Skills) each consists of 15 days.

During the last six months of practical training, you can appear in the Final examination.

As soon as you complete the practical training and cleared both the groups of the Final Examinations you will be called as a CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS.

You can take your membership number from the ICAI.
