ICAI CA Foundation Registration and Eligibility

Want to Know CA Foundation eligibility criteria?? CA Foundation Course is the entry level exam for pursuing Chartered Accountancy Course in India.  After appearing in class 12th examination or equivalent examination recognized by the Government or Government body, Student can register with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for CA Foundation Course.

CA Foundation Eligibility

Students are eligible to appear in the Foundation Examination only after qualifying the senior secondary (10+2) examination conducted by an examining body. After registration with ICAI,  Students are required to complete a minimum of 4 months study period starting from the date of registration in order to be eligible to appear in the Foundation Examination, i.e., students registered on or before 31st December 2019 will be eligible to appear in May 2020 examination and on or before 30th June 2020 for November 2020 examination, as the case may be.

List of Examinations treated as equivalent to Senior Secondary Examination are as follows:

  1. Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh
  2. Assam Higher Secondary Education Council
  3. And Host of other exams approved by Government or Government Body

As per the revised CPT New Course of Institute of Chartered Accountant of India, the aspirant of CA shall be required to pass the CA Foundation Examination instead of Common Proficiency Test to enter in CA Course.

Consequently, the registration for the Common Proficiency Course (CPC) shall discontinue effect from July 1 2017 though exams of students enrolled before July 2017 for Common Proficiency Test will be conducted till June 2019.

Change in Curriculum

Along with shift from CPT to CA foundation, changes in curriculum and pattern of CA foundation has also been made.  It comprises four papers, out of which two are objective and two are subjective type. Besides, Negative marking for choosing wrong options is applicable. Foundation Examinations are held twice a year in the months of May and November. Examination Department of ICAI  issues notifications/announcements regarding the conduct of Foundation Examination on Institute’s website.

Thereafter, students now can only register for the foundation course.

CA Foundation Registration by Online Registration Form

The process of CA Foundation registration starts with filling the Online Registration Form. You can start filling your online registration form from below online registration process.

Steps for filling CA Foundation Registration Form

Step 1- Students who are registering for the very first time for CA Foundation, should click here

You will be taken to this screen. Please fill your required details and click on Generate OTP. You will receive OTP in your mobile phone and the verification link will be sent to your concerned mail ID.

Step 2- Now you are required to enter the captcha text and submit it for receiving OTP.

Step 4- Fill the OTP and by validating complete the login process  

Step 5- Once you complete the OTP Validations, you will receive the login details on Email/SMS so that you can log in. You can log in here

Step 6- After you log in, you have to provide the necessary credentials in the registration form. There you also have to upload the scanned copies of your original documents.

 Details mentioned in the CA Foundation BOS Registration 2020 are:

  • Name of the Father
  • Name of the mother
  • Your Complete address
  • City
  • Pin code
  • Category
  • Nationality

Step 7- Now you need to upload your scanned photograph and signature. The maximum image ratio should be width: 21 cm and length: 27 cm.

Step 8- After you complete your above-mentioned process, you have to pay the required CA Foundation registration fees. 

On successful payment, the system will automatically generate  successful transaction message along with form automatically.

Here you complete your CA Foundation Registration process, now ICAI will send you the CA Foundation Study Material through CDS(Centralized Dispatch System).

While filling the online form, candidates should take into consideration the following points

  • After filling the Online Form, a candidate has to pay the required fees online using the payment gateway.
  • On successful payment, the system will automatically generate the Form. Then take the print of the form.
  • Along with print out of the online registration form, following documents are to be submitted to concerned Regional Office of ICAI within 7 days of the date of online registration
    • The duly signed printout of online successful registration form in hard copy
    • One recent colour photograph (affixed on the printout of the online successful registration form)
    • Attested copy of the 10th Marksheet/ Admit Card of 10th class indicating the Name & Date of Birth
    • Attested copy of Admit Card / Mark sheet of Class 12 examination issued by the respective Board
    • If student is a foreigner, then attested copy of proof of Nationality should also be submitted,
    • For students of reserved category and disabled students, attested copy of proof of special category certificate i.e SC/ST, OBC and Differently abled should be provided.

CA Foundation Registration is not the end

After getting registered for Foundation Course, students are also required to fill the CA Foundation application form for appearing in Foundation Examination. The registration in Foundation Course is valid for 3 years. It can be revalidated any number of times for further 3 years period by paying revalidation fee of Rs. 300/-. Subjects covered in Foundation Course introduced recently

Paper-1: Principles and Practice of Accounting (100 Marks)

Paper-2: Business Law & Business Correspondence and Reporting (100 Marks) Section A: Business Law (60 Marks) Section B: Business Correspondence and Reporting (40 Marks)

Paper-3: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics (100 Marks) Part I: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning (60 Marks) Part II: Statistics (40 Marks)

Paper-4: Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge (100 Marks) Part I: Business Economics (60 Marks) Part II: Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks) Paper-3 and Paper-4 are objective type papers with negative marking.

For abovementioned papers, The Board of Studies issues its comprehensive study materials covering all four subjects.

Passing Criteria for Foundation Examination

A Foundation Course candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination if he/ she obtains at one sitting a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the papers, subject to of negative marking.
